Obama and Affirmative Action

FIRST OF ALL
The term affirmative action refers to policies that take gender, race, or ethnicity into account in an attempt to promote equal opportunity.

Now, Mr. Basinger brought up a great question in class today... Should we still use Affirmative Action now that Barrack Obama is president.
There are (like in every debate) two sides to this.

Affirmative Action should be kept around because there are people who are straight A students who just don't have the money for college, and want to get there, so Affirmative Action may get them into a University they really hoped to get to... But at the same time, one maybe an unmotivated jackass with a double digit IQ, who applied and will get in because he/she is the minority. Some may say that if a person is a bad student but they get into a College because of Affirmative Action then they will be much more motivated to do well and make a future for themselves. But of course this isn't necessarily true. Also, in the Declaration of Independence it says your entitled to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness... so doesn't everyone deserve a shot at a good future??? I think so
This is a very hard thing to debate, because there are pros and cons to both sides.

I say Affirmative Action should stay right where it is... just because a "minority" is the president doesn't mean that "Oh a black guy is president so yea.. we have now paid our dues for blacks after generations of slavery.. AWAY WITH AFFIRMATIVE ACTION"
Doesn't work that way
Give the motivated what they deserve ... a chance~
